Safety Management/Process Intern

Main Purpose:

This temporary position will provide supplemental safety observations of designated projects, reporting to the Penhall safety manager for Reno, Nevada and/or Los Angeles, California. Projects covered may include medium to large demolition and abatement jobs with specific job duties as assigned. Activities may include safety observations onsite, PPE management and administrative duties.

This paid position includes no more than 20 hours per week on average for the duration of the internship. The position will terminate no more than 6 months from date of hire.

Specific Role Responsibilities:

  • Jobsite safety observations
  • Inputting of observations into tracking software
  • Attending subcontractor meetings as assigned
  • Assistance with administrative duties
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction
  • Research of products or methods as directed
  • Internship completion with Capstone Presentation to local Leadership Team


  • Daily to various job sites


Job Requirements

  • Matriculated in a safety and health educational program, attending classes during the semester of internship
  • Construction knowledge through experience or education
  • Transportation to and from job sites and office
  • Able to access job locations over rough terrain, climbing stairs and ladders
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Interpersonal skills essential
  • Willing to work in adverse weather conditions (hot/cold/rain)
  • Computer use– Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, safety management apps
  • Electronic data storage
  • English – proficient in business writing and verbal communication
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random screening for illegal substances
