Job Description

Main Purpose

The duties of a Collections Specialist include collection calls and/or correspondence in a fast paced goal oriented collections department

Key Relationships:


  • Customers, Vendors
  • Professional Associations

Specific Role Responsibilities:

  • Strong experience and accuracy in, but not limited to, accounts receivable (AR), collections, commercial credit checks, customer service, etc
  • Assist in processing trade references for Credit Applications
  • Collection calls and/or correspondence in a fast paced, goal oriented collections department; entering proper collection notes in system
  • Accounts Receivable tracking
  • Customer service regarding collection issues, review account adjustments, dispute resolutions
  • Prepare and process lien waivers
  • Track and notify of any lien right deadlines on jobs to eliminate company's exposure to risk
  • Upload project data into lien and bond services website
  • Accountable for reducing delinquency for assigned accounts
  • Enlist the efforts of sales and senior management when necessary to accelerate the collection process
  • Must communicate & follow up effectively with sales staff regarding customer accounts on a timely basis
  • Perform other assigned tasks and duties necessary to support the Accounts Receivable Department


Job Requirements

  • 3-5 years collections and AR experience in construction or related field
  • Strong administrative background; well organized
  • Strong attention to detail with leadership skills, creative thinker, and big picture potential
  • Commitment to excellent customer service
  • Quick learner with initiative to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication abilities; proficient in business writing and verbal communication a must
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and switch priorities quickly and efficiently as necessary to meet deadlines
  • Team player who works well with others in a small office environment
  • Computer/Office Machines to complete administrative tasks as required – Microsoft Work, Excel, Outlook, Nuance, SharePoint
  • Experience with iSeries / AS400 a plus
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random screening for illegal substances
