Job Description

Main Purpose:

Schedules and dispatches workers, equipment, or vehicles as requests are received. Maintains logs, records and schedules of calls received, monitors resources and vehicles, etc.

  • Branch Manager, Area Manager, Operations Managers, Regional VP
  • Shop Manager/Dispatch, Mechanics, Technicians, Laborers, Administrative Staff

External

  • Industry Associations, Customers

Specific Role Responsibilities:

  • Receive or prepare work orders
  • Confer with customers or supervising personnel in order to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment.
  • Determine types or amounts of equipment, vehicles, materials, or personnel required
  • Schedule and dispatch workers, work crews, equipment, or service vehicles to appropriate locations according to customer requests, specifications, or needs
  • Order supplies and equipment, and issue them to personnel
  • Arrange for necessary repairs in order to restore service and schedules
  • Relay work orders, messages, and information to or from work crews, supervisors, and field personnel
  • Advise personnel about traffic problems such as construction areas, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, and other hazards
  • Prepare daily work and run schedules.
  • Maintain files or records of customer requests
  • Maintain regulatory compliance for DOT drivers
  • Other duties as assigned by divisional leadership or senior dispatcher

Job Requirements

  • 2-5 years related service dispatch experience
  • Ability to multitask while remaining detail oriented
  • Expert knowledge of principles and methods for dispatching personnel and equipment
  • Expert knowledge of local thoroughfares, routes and surrounding areas
  • Proficient communication and organizational skills essential
  • Ability to type 65-70 WPM accurately and take dictation
  • Professional level position. Incumbent receives minimal guidance and supervision
  • Union Labor Relations (as required) – basic principles of labor / management partnerships
  • Computer/Office Machines – Microsoft Work, Excel, Outlook
  • English – proficient in business writing and verbal communication
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record required when duties require use of motor vehicle
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random screening for illegal substances
  • Knowledge and accuracy in arithmetic important
